The Sri Lankan government has returned container-loads trash back to Britain that authorities say was violating international laws governing the shipping of hazardous material.
As much as 260 tonnes of waste, that arrived in Colombo in 21 containers between Sept 2017 to March 2018, was returned back on Saturday, reports AFP.
An official said the containers were meant to contain used mattresses, carpets and rugs, but also contained hospital waste.
In its crackdown against the shipper, the Sri Lankan government discovered last year that the importer had reshipped about 180 tonnes of hazardous waste to India and Dubai in 2017 and 2018.
