Hinting at a further delay in the much waited trade deal between India and United States, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said that even though the deal is ready there are chances that it may get signed only after the presidential elections in US. He said that the deal is nearly ready and can be finalised any time the political situation in US permits it. He also added that while he is ready to sign the deal tomorrow, he has left the final decision on US ambassador Robert Lighthizer. The limited trade deal between India and US is being discussed since 2018 and is expected to cover tariff-related concessions for US farm produce, pricing of pharma products and information and communication technology products. US is expected to restore benefits given to Indian exporters under the Generalized System of Preferences, terminated by President Donald Trump.
