Equity benchmark indices closed at a record high on Friday with Sensex ending above 56,000 for the first time ever. Below are the highlights of how the markets fared today:
- Nifty rose 0.41% to end at 16,705. Sensex closed at 56,124, up 175 points.
- Broader markets outperformed as both Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices finished the trade with 1% of gains.
- Metals and pharma stocks led the rally.
- Top five gainers for the day were Ultratech Cement, Hindalco, SBI Life, L&T and Dr Reddy.
- Infosys, IndusInd Bank, Tata Consumer, M&M and Tech Mahindra were on the losing side.
- All the sectoral indices ended with significant gains except Nifty Bank, which ended almost flat.
