New SC roster opens up PIL hearings to top 5 judges

The Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, has introduced a new roster, effective from July 1, allowing the 4 senior-most judges, besides the CJI, to hear Public Interest Litigations (PILs) and Letter Petitions. The Chief Justice, however, maintains the power to assign the cases. According to the new work roster, Gogoi can assign hearing of PILs to Justice SA Bobde, NV Ramana, Arun Mishra and RF Nariman.
