The amendments to the new Motor Vehicle Act kicks in from Friday and is a huge relief for commuters. The central government has digitised the documents needed for a car including maintenance of vehicles, driving licences and e-challans that will now be done through an information technology portal.
Vehicular documents found validated through electronic means shall not be demanded in physical forms for inspection, it said and added that details of driving licences disqualified or revoked by the licensing authority will be recorded and updated chronologically in the portal.
The new Motor Vehicle Act will allow police officers on duty to penalize a commuter breaking traffic rules by looking at documents online, without even stopping the vehicle.
