Health officials have confirmed a new case of Ebola near the city of Butembo in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. A woman, from the village of Biena fell sick for a few days before being tested. She went to a hospital in Butembo but passed away before the results. Contact tracing is now underway, the health minister Eteni Longondo said, to try to eradicate the epidemic as soon as possible. This new outbreak comes less than three months after an outbreak in the western province of Equateur was declared over in November. This is the 12th outbreak in Congo since the virus was first discovered in the country in 1976.
