Monet's iconic painting auctioned at record-breaking price

One of Claude Monet’s iconic paintings, 'Meules' was sold at the Sotheby’s sale of Impressionist & Modern Art on Tuesday night in New York. The 1890 masterpiece has fetched a record-breaking $110.7 million. Sotheby's says it’s a world auction record for the artist and the first work of Impressionist art to cross the $100 million threshold at an auction. The painting is one of Monet’s acclaimed “Haystacks” series of 25 pieces, and only 1 of 4 which have to come to auction this century.
