On the occasion of World Aids Day on 1st December, officials of the Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) shared data which shows that Mizoram reports the highest number of AIDS patients in India. Close to 18,000 people are infected with HIV/AIDS in the state, with around nine persons testing positive everyday since the beginning of this year. Officials shared that about 2,500 fresh cases were detected in 2018-19, which was “extremely high” as Mizoram is one of the least populated states in India.
