Fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi was finally nabbed as he tried to enter a remote Caribbean island Dominica by a boat. Mehul Choksi, who is wanted in the Rs 14,000 cr PNB scam, went missing from Antigua where he had taken citizenship in 2017 after fleeing India.
Reports indicate Mehul Choksi entered Dominica - a small island nation in the Caribbean, using a boat but due to a lookout circular issued against him, he was nabbed by the local police. The runaway merchant was reported missing by his family, which was later confirmed by his lawyer.
There are two ongoing cases in Antigua against Choksi - extradition and revocation of citizenship. Earlier, Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne had said, the citizenship of fugitive Mehul Choksi, will be revoked and he will be extradited to India once all his legal options are exhausted.
Mehul Choksi and his nephew, celebrity jeweller Nirav Modi, had left India in January 2018, just weeks before the PNB scam surfaced. Later, it became known that he had taken citizenship of Antigua two months before the allegations were made public. They are both wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED).
