Meet the man who spent 30 years digging out a canal in his village

They say necessity is the mother of invention. Laungi Bhuiyan, a resident of Lahthua area of Gaya has carved out a three-kilometre long canal to direct rainwater falling down from nearby hills to a pond in his village in Bihar. 

It took him over 30 years to dig out the canal, which now fuels the entire village's irrigation needs and caters to needs of the animals living nearby.

While the move not only benefits the people of the village, it is also a great way of saving water and utilising it judiciously!
