Meet Veena Gupta and her husband Virendra, who are imparting education to underprivileged children on the streets of Delhi.
While Veena is a singer, her husband is a former Indian diplomat.
The students, between 4 and 14 years, are given lessons for free in Science, English, Maths and Physical Education.
The small, open-air classroom is set up under a banyan tree on a sidewalk. Mrs Gupta carries books, pencils, notebooks among other teaching materials for the children who walk over 2 kilometers from their huts on the banks of river Yamuna to attend the classes.
While schools began taking virtual classes amid the pandemic, for those without access to mobile phones, laptops and the Internet, online schooling was not an option. That's when an idea struck the Guptas, who now take teach different groups of students, three times a week, morning and evening. After the classes, students are even treated to lemonade and cookies made by Veena.
