Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has swept the Kolkata Municipla Corporation elections. The ruling party is set to win a landslide with 135 out of 144 seats up for grabs.

The BJP is settling for a distant second with just 5 seats.

The Trinamool is set to better its 2015 performance when it had won 114 seats in the KMC.

Congratulating her party candidates, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted: "Remember to serve people with utmost diligence and gratitude!"

The TMC has been in power in KMC since 2010.

Sporadic incidents of violence, including hurling of bombs at two booths, marred the KMC elections on Sunday, even as over 63 per cent of the nearly 40.5 lakh voters exercised their franchise.

The Bengal BJP has alleged violence and poll violations in the civic election. In a letter to the state Election Commission on Sunday, the party described the Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls as a farce and alleged that the police failed to check violence.
