In a move that is likely to set off a new political fight, the Maharashtra govt has said that it will probe tweets by Indian celebrities in response to international criticism of the Centre's handling to farmers' protest. Reports said that the state home minister Anil Deshmukh on Monday assured probe in response to a demand by leaders of Maharashtra Congress, who sought a probe into whether there was BJP pressure on celebrities. Tweets by pop icon Rihanna and teen climate activist Greta Thunberg were followed by a huge pushback from India, with political leaders, actors and sportspersons contending that India's sovereignty cannot be compromised.
