Bengaluru residents witnessed a rare moment in the sky as they saw a 'rainbow-like halo' around the sun on Monday.
Several people in the southern city took to social media to share pictures of the ‘halo’ or the colours of the rainbow. The halo was seen at about 11 am on Monday and lasted for over one hour.
The phenomenon popularly known as the 22 degree circular halo of the Sun or occasionally the Moon, occurs when the Sun's or Moon's rays get deflected or refracted through the hexagonal ice crystals present in cirrus clouds.
