A 51-year-old man in UK's Derbyshire couldn't believe his luck when he uncovered an antique teapot worth £1,00,000 or ₹95 lakh while clearing out his home during the lockdown.
The manual worker had no idea about the teapot's value and was about to send it to a charity shop when he took it to an auction house where its actual worth was revealed to him.
Turns out, it was a rare 15 cm wine ewer dating back to the Qianlong period, between 1735 and 1799, when teapots and ewers were considered to be fashionable.
The rare Beijing-enamelled teapot could fetch £1,00,000 at an auction on the 24th of September, according to Charles Hanson, the owner of the auction house.
The owner of the teapot stated that it had been in the family for a long time and his mother used to display it in a cabinet. He said it was probably brought to England by his grandfather from China. After his parents passed away, it ended up in a loft only to be rediscovered.
