Venky Mysore had this to say about that ₹24.75 crore bid. "Somebody told me just now before Starc's bid, they put up something like a historic bid. Very quickly history changed. IPL has changed and the salary cap has changed. Everyone comes with their plans. This is my 14th auction - you know you win some and lose some. Starc was a proffered player from that skillset standpoint. We were not successful in some bids so that favoured us. We were just happy to have him on our side," he said.

A total of 333 cricketers are set to go under the hammer for IPL season 17. Of those, 214 are Indians and 119 are overseas players. The catch is that only 77 slots, including 30 for foreign cricketers, are up for grabs among the 10 teams. A total of ₹262.96 crore is available to be used by the franchises to buy players of their choice.
