Amid an Oppositon walk-out, the Lok Sabha has expelled Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from House as it adopted the Ethics Committee recommendation in 'cash-for-query' matter. In her reaction the TMC leader said that the decision was a weaponisation of a Parliamentry committee.
While the Ethics Committee tabled its report on Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra's involvement in an alleged 'cash-for-query' case, the lower house speaker Om Birla has disallowed her from speaking in the House.
Trinamool Congress and other opposition members demanded that Moitra be allowed to put her views in the House, which was turned down by Speaker Om Birla citing past precedence.
Birla observed that in 2005, the then Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had in a directive disallowed 10 Lok Sabha members, who were involved in a 'cash for questions' scam, to speak in the House.
Earlier, Lok Sabha saw protests and was adjourned till 2 PM on Day 5 of the ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament.

The CPI(M) on Friday claimed that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra's expulsion from the Lok Sabha is a "black day" for the Parliament. Describing the action against Moitra as "overactiveness", CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty said that it is a display of the BJP's use of its brute majority in the Lok Sabha. "It is a black day for the Parliament," he told PTI.

After the resumption of the Lower House, BJP's Vijay Sonkar had tabled the Ethics Committee's report. However, due to protests by the ministers in the Parliament, the House was adjourned until 2 PM.
Ethics panel is set to present a 500-page report, recommending Moitra's expulsion from the Lok Sabha. She is embroiled in the 'cash-for-query' case. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused her of receiving cash and other gifts for posing questions to the Lok Sabha.
Various opposition members have insisted that there should be a discussion on the recommendations before a decision is taken on Moitra.
However, she can only be expelled if the House votes in favour of the ethics panel's recommendation.
After protests over the Ethics panel's report, Lok Sabha has been adjourned until 12 noon.
The opposition sought to address concerns related to the ethics committee report on cash-for-query charges against TMC MP Mahua Moitra, scheduled for discussion today.
