World Suicide Prevention Day 2022: World Suicide Prevention Day is observed annually on September 10. The event is celebrated to raise awareness about suicide prevention worldwide.

The theme for World Suicide Prevention Day 2022 is “Creating hope through action.” It reflects the need for collective action to address the urgent public health issue; suicide.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO), globally 7,03,000 people a year take their lives. And, millions of people suffer intense grief or are otherwise impacted by suicidal behaviours.

In 2021, India recorded over 1.64 lakh suicides, the highest ever in a calendar year. An NCRB report suggests that a sharp rise in such deaths has been reported in 2020 and 2021 as compared to years before the Covid-19 pandemic.
