National Girl Child Day 2022: Initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child development in 2008, the National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24th. The day is celebrated to spread public awareness about inequities that girls face in the Indian society.
The purpose of this celebration is to make young girls of the country aware of their rights. It also aims to make people aware of the discrimination faced by the girl child in society. Education, nutrition, work opportunities, child marriage, legal rights, protection and freedom are some key factors wherein the gaps in society exist.

The day, January 24th was picked in honour of the country’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. It was on this day in the year 1966 when she was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India.
