From Sara Ali Khan to Sara Tendulkar to Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, many celebs have opened up about having dealt with PCOS or PCOD in the past. Both of them are hormonal diseases and are caused due to lifestyle habits.

The difference between PCOS and PCOD

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) and PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disease) are terms often used interchangeably, but they refer to slightly different aspects of the same condition.

PCOD (Polycystic ovary disease)

PCOD primarily refers to the presence of multiple cysts in the ovaries. These cysts are small fluid-filled sacs that can form on the ovaries due to the failure of eggs to mature or release properly during the menstrual cycle.

PCOD is diagnosed based on ultrasound imaging showing the presence of these cysts, combined with symptoms like irregular menstrual cycles, excess hair growth, acne, and obesity.

PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome)

While PCOS or Polycystic ovary syndrome is a metabolic disorder in which the ovaries produce excessive amounts of male hormones, causing cysts in the ovaries.

PCOS is diagnosed based on a combination of symptoms, physical examination, blood tests to measure hormone levels, and ultrasound imaging to visualize the ovaries.

Lifestyle changes you can make to avoid or eliminate the effects of PCOD/PCOS

Healthy diet - Focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Limit intake of processed foods, sugary snacks, and refined carbohydrates.

Regular Exercise - Engage in regular physical activity such as brisk walking, jogging, cycling, or swimming.

Weight Management - Maintain a healthy weight through a combination of diet and exercise. Losing even a small amount of weight can improve insulin sensitivity and hormonal balance in women with PCOD/PCOS.

Regular Medical Check-ups - Schedule regular check-ups with your healthcare provider to monitor your condition and adjust treatment as needed.
