As per a new report, disposable sanitary pads generate about 14 kg of non-biodegradable waste in a lifetime by a woman while the number stands at 0.06 kg for menstrual cups.

Conducted by NGO ARTH (Action Research and Training for Health), the report ‘Why India Needs to Move Beyond Sanitary Pads’ revealed that total non-biodegradable waste generated from menstrual products can be reduced by 99 per cent if one uses menstrual cups.

According to the Executive director of the NGO, Poonam Muttreja, menstrual cups are not only practical, hygienic, and cost-effective but offer a longer duration of menstrual hygiene. Women should be aware of them and myths around their use need to be busted.
