Love swimming? Know how pool water can cause bacterial infection in rainy season

If you're a regular swimmer, then monsoon might be a problem for you. Though many swimming pools are closed in this season, some fitness freaks or swimming enthusiasts, love to swim throughout this season.

However, according to US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, recreational water illnesses (RWI) are caused by pathogens that are spread through contact with contaminated water.

Experts also suggest that pools get contaminated in monsoon with dirty water and when you inhale the aerosols or mist of the contaminated water you are likely to suffer from respiratory illness. And, also because of humidity, fungal and bacterial infections are likely to spread fast from the pool water. So it's better to avoid swimming during rainy season.

For safe swimming, you have to make sure you are healthy first and keep these things in mind

  • Check the chlorine level of water
  • Do not swim, if you have a cut or wound
  • Do not enter the pool if you have diarrhea
  • Use well-fitted clothes while entering the pool
