Amid severe heatwave, cases of eye stroke are rising in different parts of the country.

According to Penn Medicine, eye stroke occurs due to lack of sufficient blood flow to the tissues in the front part of the optic nerve. Heatwave can negatively impact overall eye health by causing dehydration, leading to dry eyes and irritation.

Symptoms of eye stroke

  • Sudden vision loss or blurry vision
  • Visual field loss (loss of peripheral vision)
  • Sudden onset of floaters
  • Pain or discomfort in the eye
  • Sudden dark or shadowy areas in vision
  • Visual distortions or defects (e.g., wavy lines)
  • Sudden blindness in one eye

Precautions for eye stroke

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, especially during heatwaves.
Wear UV-protective sunglasses:
Protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays.

Eat a Balanced Diet: Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and foods rich in antioxidants.

Exercise Regularly: Engage in regular physical activity to promote overall cardiovascular health.

Avoid Smoking: Quit smoking to improve blood circulation.

Limit Alcohol Consumption: Reduce alcohol intake to maintain overall health.

Manage Stress: Practice stress-reducing techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.
