A study published in the journal eClinicalMedicine, states that children who eat a handful of walnuts in a day or at least 3 times a week show improvements in cognitive abilities during their adolescent years which contribute to their psychological maturation.

The research was conducted on 700 secondary school students between 11 to 16 years of age who were asked to consume 30 grams of walnuts daily for six months.

Later, the team found that students who ate walnuts for at least 100 days showed improvements in their cognitive abilities, attention functions and behaviour.
