It doesn’t matter whether we call it Zomato or Zommaato. What matters is what the brand wanted to project through its ad.

Recently, the food delivery brand released an ad showcasing the character ‘Kachra’ from the film Lagaan who was shown belonging to a lower caste. In the commercial, Zomato used the same character played by the same actor in the movie, Aditya Lakhia.

Even though it intended to spread the message that any kind of garbage at home, office or any space can be recycled, the literal representation of a person or a lower caste character from a movie as garbage didn't go well with the consumers.

The advertisement was later deleted as it received an immense amount of backlash online. According to social media users, it was completely insensitive on Zomato’s part.
