We all love our share of smoothies. They are delicious, easy to make, and keep you full for long. However, they may be harmful to your weight loss plan. According to a nutritionist, drinking smoothies can make you gain weight. Wondering what we are talking about? Read on!
Angela Clucas, a UK-based nutritionist revealed that drinking your food makes it more difficult to stick to the calorie deficit needed to lose weight. A calorie deficit happens when you eat fewer calories than you burn.
The nutritionist reveals that smoothies are great assets for athletes or for those looking to gain muscles. However, it does not work for those who are looking to lose weight.
Angela told Business Insider that if you blend vegetables and fruits, you lose their fiber. For those who want to have the ingredients of the smoothie, they should shift to eating it whole.
Smoothie alternatives
Instead of having a glass of smoothie after a workout, you can switch to some alternative drinks like green tea, herbal tea, protein water, vegetable juice, and tart cherry juice.
While green tea is rich in antioxidants and has a moderate amount of caffeine, tart cherry juice has been associated with reducing muscle soreness.
