The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has unveiled the theme for the 2025 Met Gala, and fashionistas, it’s time to get those creative wheels spinning!

Mark your calendars for next year’s fabulous affair that will fall on May 5, 2025 - always the first Monday of May. The theme of Met Gala 2025 is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica L. Miller's groundbreaking 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

It is curated by Miller herself and Andrew Bolton from the Met’s Costume Institute.
According to Vogue, the exhibit will explore “the style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th century through to the present.”
The co-chairs for the star-studded event are actor and playwright Colman Domingo, Formula One champ Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, music icon Pharrell Williams and Vogue’s legendary editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Basketball superstar LeBron James will join the lineup as an honorary co-chair. Start planning your look—it’s going to be a night where fashion history is made!

The dress code for the 2025 Met Gala won’t be unveiled until early in the new year, but the exhibition provides context and clues for what the Costume Institute will dictate as the rules of attire. A crucial part of Miller’s book, and the exhibition by direct correlation, is the notion of “dandyism”.
