Indians wear various attires, made from a variety of materials. However, the two most popular fabrics are linen and cotton. While linen is made of natural fabric, cotton is lighter and great for summer. Here is a detailed breakup of which fabric is better to wear as per Ayurveda expert, Dr. Manisha Mishra.

Which is better linen or cotton?

Dr. Manisha Mishra said that cotton and linen are both great for us to wear. Cotton is soothing, cooling, breathable and gentle on skin. Linen on the other hand is also great. It is also rough and increases blood circulation. Dr. Mishra added that sleeping on a linen bed sheet improves your sleep quality and linen is considered as the highest healing fabric. Both linen and cotton are best for Indian climate, the expert concluded.

Linen is a natural fabric made from the fibres of the flax plant. The fabric is lightweight, breathable and comfortable to wear. It also helps increase blood circulation and is an excellent material for bedsheets. According to experts, linen bedsheets are good for sleeping. According to Ayurveda, linen is the highest healing fabric.

Cotton is obtained from natural plant fibre cotton seed pods. The first use of cotton fabric can be traced back to the Indus Valley civilization. Cotton is great for summer as it is lightweight, comfortable, and has a smooth texture. Cotton is also relatively easier to take care of as it withstands machine washing.
