'All We Imagine As Light' star Kani Kusruti flashes her watermelon purse, shows solidarity with Palestine

At the Cannes Film Festival, All We Imagine As Light got a standing ovation from the audience as it premiered at the International Film Festival. The film became the first Indian movie in 30 years to qualify for the Cannes Film Festival's main competition section.

At the premiere, which took place on May 23, actor Kani Kusruti wore a gorgeous dress. However, what took away our attention was her watermelon clutch. Here is what it signifies.

Watermelon has been associated with Palestine as it has all the colours of the Palestine flag - red, green and black seeds. Kani showed solidarity with the people of Palestine by flashing with her red and green watermelon clutch. 

Who is Kani Kusruti?

Kani is an Indian actor from Kerala. She began her career as an engineer but later shifted her focus to acting and made her acting debut in the Malayalam film industry with the movie Brahmaram in 2009. 

However, her role in the 2019 film Biriyani, brought her back to the limelight. She received significant attention and critical acclaim.

Kani has always been outspoken and never fears to express her mind. She has been outspoken in many social issues including gender equality, advocating for women's rights and empowerment.

All We Imagine As Light is an Indo- French production which follows the life of a nurse Prabha (essayed by Kani Kusruti). The story begins after she receives an unexpected gift from her long-estranged husband.
