The smog tower in Delhi's Connaught Place remained 'locked up' for most of the period when the region was shrouded under a thick blanket of haze.
According to a January 7 report by India Today, the smog tower has not been operational since December 2023 due to non-payment of salary by the Delhi government.
A 13-member team from a private organisation that operates the pollution control tower, inaugurated by Arvind Kejriwal in 2021, also mentioned that the tower is not working at its full capacity as the majority of the 5000 filters installed in the tower are old and need replacement.
