A Delhi Court on Friday directed the Tihar Jail Superintendent to ensure that former JNU Student Leader Umar Khalid, who was arrested in connection with alleged conspiracy in Delhi Riots, was allowed to step out of his confinement. The court also termed as “bizarre and strange” Tihar’s justification on keeping him confined. The jail’s reply came after Khalid told court that he was not allowed to step out of his cell or meet anyone. The court directed authorities to ensure there are no more complaints that an undertrial is being kept in sort of solitary confinement.
