The tragic ‘dowry related’ death of a Kerala woman has wounded the collective conscience of the state with the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemning the "barbaric system".

24-year-old woman Vismaya Nair, an Ayurveda medicine student who had sent WhatsApp messages to her family sharing photos of alleged torture over dowry, was found dead at her husband's home on Monday. In her messages she had alleged she was dragged by her hair and stamped on her face by her husband Kiran Kumar.

Vismaya's father claims that Kumar was pressuring the family to gift him with cash instead of the SUV they bought for him

Kiran Kumar has been suspended from his government job and has been taken into custody, Kerala Police chief informed.
