At the Inauguration Ceremony on the 20th of January, US Vice President Kamala Harris' choice of clothing carried a powerful message. From the color of her dress and overcoat to the pearls she wore, Harris made several statements with her style as she made history on Wednesday.

The vice president wore Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson, two young black designers.  Her monochrome moment, much like former First Lady Michelle Obama's, wasn’t just a bold color statement but also a show of support for young Black designers on the global stage.

She wore purple, seen as a symbol of bipartisanship. Purple colour symbolises bipartisanship between the Democratic party and the Republican party in the United States. Purple is also one of the official colors of the American women's suffrage movement, along with white and gold. It represents loyalty, constancy to purpose, and unswerving steadfastness to a cause. The colour also symbolises unity, which is an important goal of the new administration.

The pearls around her neck paid tribute to her sorority.
