Kabul airport, which has been shut since Taliban's takeover may soon be reopened for the public. Qatar Ambassador to Afghanistan on Saturday said that a technical team had managed to reopen Kabul airport to receive aid and it may soon be made operational for civilian flights.
Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, Qatar has been trying to engage with them to facilitate opening of humanitarian corridors to get aid into Afghanistan.
For a long time, Afghanistan has been highly aid-dependent, with 40% of the country's GDP dependent on foreign funding.
Meanwhile, countries like the UK have already started to hold talks with Taliban officials for "further possible evacuation" of its citizens from Afghanistan.
UK's Prime Minister’s Special Representative was in Doha last week, to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, and to facilitate safe passage for British citizens as well as Afghan civilians.
