One of Jeffrey Epstein's accusers sued Prince Andrew on Monday, alleging the British prince sexually assaulted her when she was 17.

In a civil complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan, Virginia Giuffre said the Duke of York, Queen Elizabeth's second son, battered her about two decades ago, when Epstein was also abusing her.

Giuffre, previously known as Virginia Roberts, said in a statement that she was ‘holding Prince Andrew accountable’ for what he did to her

Giuffre have repeatedly made her allegations against Epstein, his onetime girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, and Andrew, but the lawsuit marks the first time she has directly confronted Andrew in a formal setting.

It steps up public relations pressure on the prince, even if he remains beyond the reach of the courts.

The prince however had said in a 2019 BBC interview he had no recollection of meeting Giuffre, and categorically denied her claim of sexual abuse.
