Iran executes young wrestler despite global outcry

Iran on Saturday that the Islamic regime have executed a wrestler for allegedly murdering a man despite international outcry to stop the controversial execution. According to a statement by the country's state TV, Navid Afkari was executed on Saturday morning in Adelabad prison in Shiraz. The 27-year-old wrestler was accused of stabbing a water supply company employee in the southern city of Shiraz during a wave of anti-government protests in 2018. But after Afkari revealed that he had been tortured into making a confession, it sparked an international outrage. The World Players Association said that the wrestler had been unjustly targeted for taking part in the protests. US President Donald Trump also tweeted his concern and had asked Iran to spare the young man's life.
