There were a lot of questions raised after his side went down to India at the Lord's but Joe Root responded to them in style and smashed his 23rd Test hundred and 3rd in 3 games of the series. What made this hundred even more special as the fact that he reached the 3-figure mark in front of a packed home stadium.

The English skipper seems to be eating tons for breakfast as Root became the first player ever to score hundreds in 3 consecutive Tests twice in a calendar year. Interestingly, 2 of them have been double tons. Moreover, Root has now smashed over 400 runs vs India in each of the 3 Test series in 2014, 2016 and 2021, the first English batter to do so. India's plan, if they had one, clearly fell apart once again as the English skipper continues to be the 'Root' cause of India's agony.
