A humiliating loss vs India at the Lord's has left the England and Wales Cricket Board baffled and top-order batters Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley faced the consequences. Both have been dropped from England’s 15-man squad for the third Test match against India at Headingly, starting next week.
As both cricketers return to their respective county teams, England head coach Chris Silverwood said that the pair needed some time away to regain their confidence after a challenging period. He though confirmed that Sibley and Crawley still remain a massive part of England's plans moving forward.
Interestingly, Dawid Malan, who last featured in a Test match in 2018 when England beat India by 31 runs, has been added to the Test squad. Apart from him, Seamer Saqib Mahmood will also be eager to make his Test debut as he too has been included in the squad.
ECB was forced to make these changes following a poor batting show vs India in the first 2 Tests. Interestingly, apart from Joe Root, only 2 other English batters feature in the list of top 10 scorers in the Test series so far.
