India records new high: 2.73 lakh Covid-19 cases, 1,619 deaths in a day

India recorded 2,73,810 fresh Covid-19 infections in the biggest-ever daily spike in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the health ministry. The total caseload has soared to 1.5 crores.

With 1,619 Covid deaths, India saw its deadliest Covid day yet. Over 1.78 lakh people have died so far due to the virus. Surging new infections have pushed the active cases to almost 20 lakhs now. 

This is the fifth straight day that India has recorded more than 2 lakh Covid cases in 24 hours. Several states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka etc. continued to witness a record surge on Sunday.
