Women's Reservation Bill tabled in Lok Sabha; here's what it says

The much-awaited Women’s Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha was introduced in Lok Sabha on September 19 by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.  

As per the bill, one-third of the total number of seats will be reserved for women in Lok Sabha, all State Assemblies and the Delhi Assembly.

The bill aims to ensure greater representation of women in the legislative bodies.

The existing members of various legislative bodies won't be affected as the provisions of the bill will come into affect after a delimitation exercise.

The bill introdcued by the Centre has received support from the Opposition parties as well.
