Watch: Rashtrapati Bhavan shares pictures from first Republic Day

Leafing through the pages of history, the Rashtrapati Bhavan Archives has shared photographs from the first Republic Day which was celebrated on January 26, 1950. 

It shared a photograph of Dr Rajendra Prasad taking oath as the first President of India in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan, then known as Government House. 

The account also shared a photograph of Dr Rajendra Prasad sitting with Sardar Patel at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. 

It also shared pictures from the Republic Day parade of 1953. The images show then-President Dr Prasad taking the salute from various marching contingents.
