A videographer was shot dead in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on February 28 after he failed to record a birthday celebration after his camera’s battery ran out.

The deceased, 22-year-old Sushil Kumar Sahni, was a resident of Darbhanga’s Makhnaha village. He was hired to record the birthday celebration of the accused Rakesh Sahni’s daughter. However his camera’s battery got discharged midway through the party.

The enraged father abused Sushil and shot him in the mouth. The accused and his friends then left Sushil at the gate of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital before running away. The hospital staff rushed the victim to the emergency ward where he was declared dead during the treatment.

Villagers took to the streets demanding immediate arrest of the accused, and blocked traffic at the Laheriasarai main road on February 29. They dispersed after Benipur SDPO Sumit Kumar reached the spot and assured immediate action.

Kumar said, “Father of the deceased has lodged an FIR against Rakesh, who is absconding after the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that Rakesh is also involved in illegal liquor trade. We have detained three persons for interrogation in this connection, and raids are being conducted to nab the accused.”
