In a further escalation of the Karnataka-Maharashtra border row, a clash broke out at a college fest in Karnataka's Belagavi, which the Maharashtra government claims to be its territory.
The altercation broke out after a student allegedly waved the traditional Kannada flag which reportedly angered the Marathi students
The viral video shows a student dancing with the flag in his hands, evidently upsetting the Marathi group which then begins to thrash the victim.
The altercation was reportedly stopped after teachers' intervention.
Meanwhile, police have ordered a probe into the matter.

The border dispute between the two states popped up after Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai claimed that some areas of Maharashtra belonged to his state.
Maharashtra on the other hand lays claim over Belagavi and some other areas saying that some Marathi speaking areas were wrongly given to Karnataka.
The dispute has been pending before the Supreme Court for several decades.
