IIT Roorkee to Host 25th Convocation on September 5

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is set to hold its 25th Convocation on 5 September 2025.

The ceremony will be attended by several eminent dignitaries, with Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Government of India, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, IAS (Retd.), former Chairperson of NCVET, Government of India, will join as Guest of Honour, while Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman of the Board of Governors, will preside over the event. The second session of the Convocation will feature an Award Ceremony, where Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, will serve as Chief Guest.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, a physician-turned-politician, has been elected successively to the 16th, 17th, and 18th Lok Sabha from Udhampur constituency. Over the years, he has held significant portfolios, including Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of State in the Department of Space. Known for his unique combination of scientific expertise and administrative acumen, he has played a vital role in advancing India’s progress in science, technology, and governance.

Prof. (Dr.) Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, IAS (Retd.), has had an illustrious career in public service, serving as Chairperson of NCVET and as Additional Chief Secretary of Punjab. Currently, he is associated with IIT Roorkee and IIT Ropar as Visiting Professor, and also serves as Professor of Practice at the Management Development Institute, Gurugram.

In the lead-up to the Convocation, a press conference was organized on 2 September 2025 at the Senate Hall, James Thomson Building, IIT Roorkee. The event was chaired by Prof. K.K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, along with Prof. Udai Pratap Singh, Deputy Director, and Prof. N.K. Navani, Dean of Academic Affairs. During the briefing, the institute’s leadership underscored the importance of the Convocation, the distinguished participation of national leaders, and IIT Roorkee’s enduring legacy as a center of innovation, knowledge creation, and societal contribution.

This year’s Convocation will see a total of 2,614 students receiving their degrees. The graduating batch comprises 1,267 undergraduates, 847 postgraduates, and 500 PhD scholars. Among them, 602 are female graduates, underlining the institute’s continuing commitment to inclusivity and empowerment in higher education.
