Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced that the state will plant more than 37 crore saplings on July 9 as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s green initiative, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.
The massive plantation drive aims to boost environmental awareness and participation across all levels of society.
The Chief Minister made the announcement during a video conference with village heads, block chiefs, district panchayat presidents, and administrative officials. He urged citizens to take part in the plantation campaign from 7 AM to 7 PM on July 9 and encouraged them to share selfies after planting trees to help spread awareness.
“If we plant flowering trees on the roads' median and give the responsibility of protecting them to NGO or other organisations, it will give out a good message. We have to do it on expressways, highways, interstate connectivity or municipality roads... I appeal to everyone to join the campaign on 9th July from 7 AM to 7 PM, and take a selfie after planting a tree...” Yogi Adityanath said during the virtual meeting.
Referring to the initiative’s origin on World Environment Day, the Chief Minister highlighted its growing success and the importance of public involvement. “The mission that we started following the vision of PM Modi on June 5, 2025, 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' is reaching towards newer heights of success. On July 9, over 37 crore saplings will be planted in a single day in Uttar Pradesh under this campaign," he said.
The July 9 plantation drive is expected to be one of the largest one-day environmental initiatives undertaken by any Indian state, aimed at expanding green cover and reinforcing climate resilience.
