The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has made significant changes to the liquor policy. These changes have already been approved by the cabinet. Under the new policy, regular liquor shops can also be converted into model shops. Additionally, liquor stores will now be open for an extra hour on two days of the year. This liquor policy will be in effect from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, although some of its rules will be implemented immediately.

This has drawn criticism from former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, who targeted the BJP, stating that if they believe consuming alcohol is good, then they should also allow its sale in offices.
