Lucknow witnessed a vibrant Tiranga Yatra on Thursday to commemorate the city’s impressive rise to third place in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 rankings.

The rally celebrated the capital’s achievement in cleanliness and efficient waste management.

Mayor Sushma Kharkwal led the celebrations and credited the collective efforts of citizens, municipal officials, and sanitation workers for the milestone.
"The Municipal Corporation members, workers and sanitation workers have played a huge role in this along with the public, therefore, we are carrying out Tiranga Rally to thank the public... Whenever I visit schools, I tell the students to ask their mothers to segregate wet and dry waste for better waste management... The in-charge authorities here carry out plantation every week here and this will go on continuously till September..." she said.

On July 14, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced Lucknow’s performance in the annual cleanliness survey.
"In the central government's 'Swachhata Survekshan-2024', the state capital Lucknow has set a record. In the released list, Lucknow district has jumped 41 points from the previous rank, securing the third position nationwide," Khanna posted on X.

The Swachh Survekshan, a flagship program under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, assesses urban cleanliness and waste disposal mechanisms across cities. The 2024 edition introduced new parameters, including school sanitation, gender-segregated toilets, and safe disposal of solid waste.

The survey is part of the broader Swachh Bharat Mission, launched on October 2, 2014, to foster a nationwide movement for clean and sustainable urban environments.
