Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated two major public welfare initiatives in Gorakhpur on Monday, reinforcing the city's journey toward becoming a smart city.

The newly opened Urban Facilitation Centre (Nagariya Seva Kendra) and a Senior Citizen Day Care Centre were launched at a combined cost of ₹14.22 crore.

Speaking at the event, CM Yogi said, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Nagariya Seva Kendra. The Uttar Pradesh government has also launched the Senior Citizen Day Care Centre, a dedicated space where elderly individuals can spend their day. The centre offers a canteen, morning yoga, newspapers, and spiritual texts from the library, ensuring all-around care and well-being."

He emphasized the people-centric approach of the state’s development agenda, adding, "Our Gorakhpur is on the path of development. True progress is only meaningful when it directly benefits the people."

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister held a Janta Darshan at the Gorakhnath temple, where he listened to grievances and demands presented by local residents.

On Sunday, CM Yogi also highlighted a significant milestone for the state and the nation — the establishment of the BrahMos Missile Integration Unit in Lucknow under the Defence Industrial Corridor initiative. The facility will be instrumental in manufacturing BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, enhancing India's defense capabilities and reducing reliance on foreign imports.

Addressing a public gathering in Gorakhpur, he stated, "... The biggest terror state is Pakistan. Brahmos is a missile that targeted a Pakistani aircraft recently and it will now be manufactured in Lucknow... Weapons will be made that will shake the enemy..."

His remarks come in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, an ongoing military campaign targeting terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The BrahMos unit also supports the central government's Make-in-India initiative, with Lucknow emerging as a key defense manufacturing hub. CM Yogi urged the public to stay vigilant against anti-national elements, saying, "We are secure when our country is secure, and that happens when we all keep the nation first... Public should be aware of anyone who makes any statement that is anti-national and boycott them."

Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya echoed these views, underlining the importance of the BrahMos unit within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor.

He described it as a historic leap in India’s journey toward becoming a global superpower.

"Under the defence corridor, the historic unit for integration of the BrahMos missile is an important step towards making India a superpower. This is a huge achievement for PM Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, UP CM Yogi Adityanath and the double-engine Government, and the more it is appreciated, the less it is. I express gratitude to all scientists and engineers of DRDO," he said.
