The American government has reportedly launched a slew of measures to reduce processing time for visas for Indians.

USA is organising special interviews for first-time applicants, and also increasing staff strength at its consulates in India. The first in a series of special Saturday interview days was organised on 21 January 2023.

The US Embassy in Delhi, as well as consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad functioned on Saturday for in-person visa interviews.

Washington is taking multiple steps to clear the backlog in visa processing caused by Covid, officials said.

During Union minister Piyush Goyal's recent trip to the US, the Indian delegation had raised the problem of delay in issuance of business visas to Indians.
