Ballia (UP), Sep 2 (PTI): A YouTuber journalist has been booked for allegedly demanding a monthly payment of Rs 30,000 from a businessman, threatening severe repercussions if the payment was not made, according to the police on Tuesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rasra) Alok Kumar Gupta reported that the FIR was filed on Monday at the Rasra Police Station, based on the complaint made by Dilip Kumar Gupta, a trader from Gudri Bazar in Rasra town.

In the complaint, it is stated that Sanjeev Kumar Gupta allegedly leveraged his status as an accredited journalist to coerce Dilip Gupta into paying Rs 30,000 each month. He is also accused of threatening to disrupt Dilip's business if the demand was not met.

The trader further accused Sanjeev of spreading misleading information about him on social media platforms.

"An FIR has been registered under Section 308 (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is currently underway," the officer stated.
